Valorant’s 12.08 update has arrived in 2026 with the unmistakable thud of a patch that refuses to travel light. Act 3 is officially open, and Riot Games has packed it with a new limited-time ranked mode, a fresh bundle, a battlepass, a map-pool shuffle, and enough bug fixes to keep the support team from staring wistfully out of a window. The notes are long, the changes are loud, and the vibe is very much ‘the future is now, please aim responsibly.’

Riot has spent the last few months rolling out some seriously mega updates for Valorant. The agent pool has been shaken like a snow globe, new agents have joined the party, and a new weapon has been tossed into the mix. With summer approaching and the game’s sixth anniversary lurking on the calendar, the developers clearly have bigger plans for Future Earth up their sleeves. For now, Act 3 is the main event, and the 12.08 patch is its very loud opening act.

🎯 Skirmish: Ascension Is the New Playground

Skirmish: Ascension has entered the building, and it is not arriving quietly. Riot describes it as the next evolution of Skirmish: a fast, skill-forward competitive experience where gunplay stays primary, while selected abilities create more tactical decisions and replayable duels. Players pick from a curated roster of Agents, each equipped with a single ability, then fight through staged weapon rounds in 1v1 or 2v2 queues. The first side to win 10 rounds with the provided guns and abilities takes the glory. No economy, no shopping spree, no awkward debate about who gets the last Vandal. The mode handles that itself.

The curated roster is a proper little buffet of trouble:

Agent Ability
Jett Tailwind
Waylay Refract
Chamber Rendezvous
Cypher Cyber Cage
Omen Shrouded Step
Phoenix Curve Ball
Yoru Clone
Iso Contingency
Sage Barrier Orb
Raze Blast Pack
Vyse Arc Rose
KAY/O Flash/Drive
Breach Flashpoint
Veto Crosscut

Weapons escalate through stages as the match progresses. Rounds 1 to 4 are pistol territory with the Bandit and Sheriff. Rounds 5 to 8 move into low-tier rifles with the Guardian and Bulldog. From round 9 onward, the Vandal and Phantom take over. It is a neat ladder of firepower, and it means players cannot simply buy their way out of a bad aim day. Fair enough.

🏆 The FTW Ladder Wants Names

The competitive side comes with the FTW ranked ladder, a leaderboard segmented by server, region, and platform. The 1v1 and 2v2 ladders are tracked independently, so solo duelists and dynamic duos each get their own stage. The rank tiers are as follows:

Tier Threshold
Iron 700
Bronze 1100
Silver 1500
Gold 1800
Platinum 2100
Diamond 2400
Ascendant 2700
Immortal MAX
Radiant Top 100

Rewards include the Combat Ready player card for completing 3 Skirmish: Ascension matches and the Trade Me player card for completing 15. Titles are awarded by the highest rank achieved on either ladder: Skirmish Competitor for Gold to Platinum, Skirmish Expert for Diamond to Immortal, and Skirmish Legend for Radiant. The FTW ladder is tapping its watch and waiting for someone to prove a point. A 2v2 partner who communicates? … revolutionary.

🗺️ Map Pool and Store News

The map pool has politely swapped seats. Ascent is in for Competitive and Deathmatch queues, while Bind is out of both. No biggie, unless Bind was someone’s comfort blanket, in which case the blanket has been folded and placed in a drawer.

The Kuronami 2.0 bundle is also live and will set buyers back 9,500 VP. It contains skins for the Melee Kunai/Katana, Phantom, Operator, Ghost, and Guardian. The Act 3 Battlepass is strutting alongside it with the Keys to Elysium Vandal, Insidious Phantom, and Boss Bear Spray, plus plenty more for players to grab. The store is clearly not planning to be subtle about any of this.

🔧 Bug Fixes, Competition, and Cleanup

Riot’s bug-fix broom has been busy. Several fixes landed in Patch 12.07 but missed the notes: Miks’ Bassquake minimap cone blinking on use, Veto’s Chokehold detecting enemies behind rotating doors on Lotus, KAY/O’s ability VFX failing after NULL/cmd, Neon’s High Gear slide missing surface-specific SFX, Tejo’s agent select animation cutting off explosion smoke, Gekko’s Dizzy only targeting enemies with visible heads, and Yoru’s Dimensional Drift failing to see invisible abilities such as Vyse’s Shear or Cypher’s Trapwire even at close range.

Patch 12.08 adds more: Viper’s Toxic Screen SFX activating repeatedly when Veto walked into it with Evolution active, Sage-resurrected players inside Viper’s Decaying abilities not gaining Decay, and Tejo’s Armageddon sometimes casting at the targeting spawn instead of the intended location.

Stage V26A3 begins May 6. Contender and Invite Division have only six weeks of matches, still each Saturday from May 9 to June 13. Playoffs now stretch across multiple days: the first round is June 20, and advancing teams return on June 21 for their next matchup. General fixes also cover audio sliders that were not moving correctly and an issue where exiting the client during a paused replay did not work. Mode-specific bugs include the overtime timer sticking at 00.50 in Skirmish 2v2 and 1v1 Ascension, plus agent abilities failing to appear on the Combat Report after affecting enemies.

Act 3 has plenty of moving parts, and 12.08 is the patch that ties them together with a grin. The patch notes have clearly been doing cardio, and players have a new ladder, a new bundle, and a freshly shuffled map pool to keep up with.
